I created this website to share information about my Mom's Weber family.
Over 20 years ago, I got interested in learning more about my Mom's family, both in the United States, and, if possible, back in Germany. I started by searching the internet for information.
I corresponded with a couple of other persons who had done research on the Weber family. One of them sent me a gedcom file containing genealogical information about individuals in our shared family tree. This gave me a good basis for building up my family tree. In the meantime, I downloaded Personal Ancestral File (PAF), which was a genealogy management software product formerly provided free of charge by FamilySearch. After I loaded the gedcom file into PAF, I could update existing and add new family members to the tree.
I found a Genealogy website where people shared information for a given family surname; including, Weber. One of the posts identified my great-grandparents (NIcholaus Weber and Katharina Fisch) and the town from which they emigrated in Germany.
Once I knew the town in Germany where my ancestors came from, I went to the local Family History Center in Brentwood, which is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). The Mormons have an extension microfilm collection of genealogical data; including local church baptism, marriage, and death records. I requested Microfilm of manuscripts from the Catholic church in Irsch, district of Saarburg. After pouring through the microfilm, I compiled a family tree that I called "Webers in Irsch".
